TechandCo Hub

The problem

The hub sells timed internet access through printed vouchers and cash payments at the counter. Its router manages connectivity, but the business also needs a record of voucher stock, sales and usage. Paid sessions must continue even when the management software is unavailable.

The approach

The design starts with the work at the counter: issuing a readable code, recording a sale and checking whether a voucher has been used. The database holds the business record, while the router enforces access and time limits independently. Router operations pass through the backend, and a dedicated physical recovery connection preserves staff access if the network configuration goes wrong.

The build

• —Voucher codes use two groups of five characters and exclude easily confused letters and numbers, making them easier to read aloud and enter from a printed slip.
• —Codes are stored as hashes. Lost vouchers are revoked and replaced, preserving a record of the change.
• —The router enforces purchased time independently of the backend, allowing paid sessions to continue during a software outage.
• —A router setting that automatically readmitted recognised devices for three days was identified and disabled to enforce voucher expiry.
• —Guest and staff traffic are separated, with a reserved router port providing a physical recovery path.
• —Voucher batches are tracked as stock so printed codes, including missing sheets, remain traceable.
• —The dashboard brings together counter sales, daily takings, customers and active sessions, with live updates delivered through server-sent events.

The outcome

The system runs against the hub's MikroTik hAP ax² in Osun State. Package management, voucher stock, router operations and session metering are implemented. Database-to-router reconciliation and self-service purchases through the captive portal remain the next stage of development.
