The problem
Students know they procrastinate, and willpower-based focus apps are trivial to ignore. The distraction lives on the same machine as the work.
The approach
Don't ask the student to behave — seal the machine. A Tauri desktop app locks the computer into a study session with OS-level app blocking and kiosk mode, then proves the studying happened with an AI quiz built from the student's own material. A mobile companion and a money-stake system raise the cost of quitting.
The build
- —Native app blocking and a kiosk focus-watchdog (macOS via objc2, Windows via Win32) that pulls the user back within half a second
- —AI quiz generation from the student's PDFs and notes — five question types including self-graded free text
- —Weekly timetable that auto-starts sessions, with local notifications and launch-at-login
- —A wallet and money-stakes system — pledge against a study goal, funded by bank transfer
- —A React Native companion app on Google Play
The outcome
Shipped across desktop (macOS + Windows), a mobile app on Google Play, and a marketing site at staylockedin.xyz.
