GUMED Portal

The problem

A student's progress depends on decisions made across admissions, academic departments, examinations and finance. When those records sit in separate spreadsheets or paper files, it becomes difficult to follow the student's history or establish who approved a change. GUMED Portal brings that record together from application to graduation.

The approach

The portal connects each stage of the student lifecycle, with access shaped around the responsibilities of students, lecturers, exam officers and administrators. Academic policies, including grading, credit limits and progression, are configurable so the university can adjust its rules without rewriting the software.

The build

• —Admissions follow applicants through offers, acceptance, fee payment and matriculation into a student record.
• —Versioned curricula preserve the requirements for existing students while allowing new versions to be introduced, including prerequisites and course equivalencies.
• —Course registration checks credit limits, prerequisites and registration dates before submission for review.
• —Results pass through departmental and exam-officer approval before publication. Subsequent corrections are recorded in an audit history.
• —Student finance covers approved fee structures, instalment invoices, payment confirmations and reversals, waivers and receipts.
• —Graduation workflows bring together clearance, academic audits and degree classification.
• —Institution-level tenancy and role-based access separate responsibilities, with distinct database permissions for the application, migrations and administration.

The outcome

The portal is live at portal.gumed.edu.ng for Gerar University of Medical Sciences, supporting administration across admissions, academic records, student finance and graduation.
